The Challenge of Quality Control in Surface Treatments
In today’s electroplating industry, bath optimization and environmental monitoring require fast and reliable results. However, ensuring this level of accuracy using traditional methods can involve long wait times, labor-intensive analyses, and operational management that is not always compatible with production needs.
For this reason, electroplating companies—regardless of their production scale—need fast, accurate, and flexible tools capable of providing immediate results directly on the shop floor or at the plating tank. More autonomous and timely quality control helps reduce downtime, optimize consumption, and intervene more effectively in processes.
The GalvanLab® Junior CDR Solution
To meet these needs, we’ve introduced the CDR GalvanLab® Junior, the new compact chemical analyzer that incorporates the photometric technology of the higher-end model into a smaller, versatile, and fully customizable format.
CDR GalvanLab® Junior was designed according to the philosophy of simplicity and efficiency that characterizes CDR’s line of analyzers: optimized methods, ready-to-use pre-filled reagents, and no need for glassware or hazardous solvents. The instrument also allows non-specialized personnel to obtain accurate results in just a few steps, directly on the shop floor or at the tank side.
A Customizable Analytics Dashboard
The main innovation of the CDR GalvanLab® Junior is its modular design. Unlike the CDR GalvanLab® Top, which offers a complete set of analysis panels, the Junior version can be configured to meet the specific operational needs and production processes of each individual customer.
In fact, it is possible to select and activate only the necessary analysis panels, optimizing the initial investment and keeping the instrument focused on the parameters that need to be monitored most frequently in daily operations.
The Main Benefits
- Same advanced technology: It uses the same photometric module as the CDR GalvanLab®, with up to 8 wavelengths across 4 measurement cells, ensuring accurate and repeatable results.
- Pre-calibrated and maintenance-free: the instrument is delivered pre-calibrated and requires no periodic calibrations or routine maintenance.
- Simplicity and speed: thanks to the 4.3" color touchscreen interface and the 37 °C thermostated incubation block with 3 positions, the operator can perform up to 3 analyses simultaneously in just a few minutes.
- Maximum portability: The compact design makes the Junior model ideal for quick checks at the tank side or at various locations throughout the facility.
- Essential connectivity: The USB Type-B port allows for the transfer of the results database in compatible formats, such as XLS and SQL; the instrument is also equipped with Bluetooth technology.
Applications: Maximum Versatility Across All Molds
Its compact size and simplified workflow management do not limit the instrument’s scope of application. Thanks to its modular design, the CDR GalvanLab® Junior can be configured to meet various production monitoring needs. By selecting dedicated panels, the instrument allows for precise analysis of the main matrices already covered by CDR GalvanLab® technology:
- Electroplating baths: timely monitoring of key components to maintain consistent deposition efficiency and prevent production scrap.
- Contaminants: monitoring of contaminants, such as copper in ruthenium baths, to ensure process compliance and optimize wastewater treatment systems.
- Process water: analysis of the chemical profile of the water used in washing and surface treatment stages, contributing to the stability of the entire production cycle.
- Precious metal recovery: Analysis and monitoring of solutions to improve the efficiency of recovery systems for gold, silver, palladium, and other metals, reducing waste of high-value raw materials.
A Tool for Every Production Scale
While the CDR GalvanLab® Top remains the benchmark for large facilities and centralized laboratories that handle high volumes of samples—with up to 16 simultaneous analyses and multitasking capabilities—the Junior version is an ideal solution for:
- Small and medium-sized companies that wish to bring quality control in-house in a cost-effective, autonomous, and safe manner, without the need to set up a traditional chemical laboratory.
- Large manufacturing facilities that, while having a central laboratory, require an agile, compact, and quick-to-deploy support unit that can be placed directly on the production floor for immediate, on-site decision-making tests.
Conclusion
With the launch of the Junior model, CDR is expanding its CDR GalvanLab® line of chemical analysis systems for electroplating baths, introducing a level of operational and commercial flexibility unprecedented in the surface treatment industry. Combining scientific precision, operator safety, and a configuration tailored to the customer’s processes, CDR GalvanLab® Junior proves to be the perfect partner for modern, efficient, and sustainable process control.
